Steve Walker Texas Ranger

Our April Safari saw good friend Steve Walker join us from Texas for another memorable South African hunting adventure. Steve was accompanied by his wife Terri, along with Sonasearch hunt promotion recipients James and Kady Grant. From the very beginning it was clear this safari was going to deliver special memories for everyone involved.

One of the standout moments of the trip was seeing both Terri and Kady take their very first animals. Both ladies hunted with the beautifully appointed Weatherby Camilla chambered in .280 Ackley Improved — a rifle specifically designed to fit the female anatomy and one that proved perfectly suited to the task. Their excitement and success added a special atmosphere to the safari and made for unforgettable moments in the veld.

James enjoyed an exceptional hunt and rounded off his package with a collection of outstanding trophies. The highlight was undoubtedly the brute of a Kudu bull taken in the semi-arid Karoo region after a rewarding stalk through the rugged terrain. The Black Wildebeest gave everyone the runaround with its usual unpredictable antics, while a striking Black Springbuck capped off what was a highly successful safari.

Not to be outdone, Steve enjoyed an incredible hunt of his own. His trophies included a jet-black Sable bull with sweeping horns, as well as a massive old Eland bull taken in the Karoo. Returning to the coastal thicket for the final day of the safari, Steve added an ancient Bushbuck ram to his growing list of memorable African trophies.

It was another safari for the books and a fitting way to close out the season. We are already looking forward to the Cape Buffalo hunts planned for 2027, where Steve will return to Africa alongside Rich and Adam for their second adventure on the continent.
