A Russian Affair: Mid-Winter Hunting Safari in South Africa

During the first week of July, we welcomed Andre and his family back to camp for another memorable South African hunting safari. Andre had previously joined us earlier in the year as part of the January tour group, but it did not take long for him to decide that he needed to return — this time with his boys and his father to experience the excitement of mid-winter hunting in the Eastern Cape.

The winter conditions made for excellent hunting, with cool mornings, clear days, and plenty of game movement throughout the safari. Over the course of the trip, the family enjoyed successful hunting for Baboons, Kudu, Impala, and Warthogs. Every outing brought its own challenges and excitement, and the group quickly settled into the rhythm of life in camp.

The night hunting proved to be one of the highlights of the safari. The cold winter evenings created perfect conditions, and every drive out into the bush carried a real sense of anticipation. The excitement and fast pace of the night hunting kept everyone fully engaged and added another unforgettable layer to the trip.

Between the hunting adventures, there was still time to enjoy a few scenic flips in the helicopter, giving the family a completely different perspective of the beautiful South African landscape and the vast hunting areas we are fortunate to call home.

The action did not stop there either. The family also managed to fit in a deep-sea fishing trip with Darren and his crew aboard the ‘Black Fish’. It was a fantastic opportunity to experience another side of the Eastern Cape’s outdoor lifestyle and rounded off the adventure perfectly.

Although the visit was short and sweet, it was filled with great memories, good hunting, and plenty of laughter around camp. We truly enjoyed hosting Andre and his family once again, and we are certain this will not be the last time we see them back in South Africa for another hunting safari.
